Looking forward to a future without the past...
Scrabble game
Published on June 30, 2006 By GoodMorphing In WinCustomize Talk
Rules:
  1. Cut  and Paste the scrabble board into your message
  2. Add a word connecting to an existing word
  3. Try to make the word something that has to do with good food.
  4. Keep going until no more words can be added!

Might have to establish some kind of order, though.  So several people aren't submitting the same one at one time.  It's also a challenge to have a theme for each game.  Once you paste it the grids show up.  They disappear when you send the message.

* Tofu removed 47songs ...it conflicts with the word "steak" above it.

Each word must fit with it's neighbouring word, as in a crossword puzzle [or scrabble]

on Jul 02, 2006
When playing scrabble, one needs to confirm which dictionary is allowed as a reference for accaeptale words. In the world I grew up in, playing scrabble with my grandmother and her sisters and other extended family members, only one dictionary was considered to be allwoed as the dictionary of the night. My grandmother and her sisters, of course, each had their own versions, but before each game, only one was accepted as reference per game.

When it has come to online scrabble games, such as the one at wordbiz, if you allow all dictionaries from their database, as dictionaries that are acceptable as reference, then the words ef, to, au are terms acceptable to the game. Therefore, valid  words.  Check this link: http://www.braunston.com/kevin/scrabble/wsc_howto.html

Word Lists

Words are checked against a dictionary made up using the Enhanced North American Benchmark LExicon (ENABLE) and OSW extensions. ENABLE is based on the Merriam-Webster 10th Edition dictionary, but corrects a number of errors made in the compilation of the OSPD. The OSW extensions contain the additional words appearing in the OSW but not in ENABLE. The resulting list is a slight superset of the SOWPODS (OSPD+OSW) combined list. For more details see the ENABLE home page. The construction of the dictionary and its contents are available for public scrutiny via the web. I am not a lexicographer, so there is no point mailing me about its contents.

The following two-letter words are allowed:

aa ab ad ae ag ah ai al am an ar as at aw ax ay ba be bi bo by ch da de di do ea ed ee ef eh el em en er es et ex fa fy gi go gu ha he hi hm ho id if in io is it jo ka ko ky la li lo ma me mi mm mo mu my na ne no nu ny ob od oe of oh oi om on oo op or os ou ow ox oy pa pe ph pi po qi re sh si so st ta te ti to ug uh um un up ur us ut we wo xi xu ya ye yo yu zo

according to the two letter word list, 'au' isn't allowed and tofu should be removed, although au is the web domain extension for Australia and the chemical symbol for gold .  This is a cool thing goodmorphing!!!
on Jul 03, 2006
"au" as a noun is also considered: a soft yellow malleable ductile (trivalent and univalent) metallic element; occurs mainly as nuggets in rocks and alluvial deposits; does not react with most chemicals but is attacked by chlorine and aqua regia.

or:
NOUN:
Abbr. AU
A unit of length used in measuring astronomical distances within the solar system equal to the mean distance from Earth to the sun, approximately 150 million kilometers (93 million miles).

Therefore, tofu can be considered valid if the dictionary that gives this description of au as a noun is accepted in scrabble standards for this particular game.

Edit: *sigh*

Any reason why the word " sausage " was removed that I added in  # 29 ?
on Jul 03, 2006

Try to make the word something that has to do with good food.

....and with that, I gotta bow out of this thread, ~it's causing major nightmares with the browser freezing up for several minutes when trying to post anything to it, or even opening it.

Have fun, either way.

Yes...something is 'wrong' with this thread....it may be causing issues....took about 5 minutes to load.

only with IE - took forever to load and kept freezing - but with FF - once loaded first time - it loads right up second time .

Donna, I wouldn't argue your words are/are not valid for scrabble but they do not fit the "theme" GM started, being Food Related. For that reason I would say that Tofu would be allowed but not in that location. Just my opinion as a amatuer scrabble player.

Page loads fine in Opera.
